Chef & Owner
Cherry Hill, NJ native Greg Vernick could be found in the kitchen at an early age thanks to his grandfather owning a Philadelphia butcher shop and his mother, Beth, owning a local restaurant near their hometown. Greg went on to earn a degree in hospitality management from Boston University and a culinary degree from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in New York.
Greg completed his CIA externship at Boston’s Clio under Chef Ken Oringer. Following graduation, Greg spent his several years working for acclaimed Chef Jean-Georges Vongrichten, first as an opening line cook at Perry St, then rising through the ranks to become sous chef at Jean Georges and Nougatine. Greg eventually became a corporate chef trainer for Vongrichten’s restaurants in Qatar, Tokyo, Vancouver, Boston and Park City, Utah.
Since opening his first restaurant, Vernick Food & Drink, in May of 2012, Greg has been recognized by StarChefs as 2013 Rising Star Chef, and has received accolades from Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, James Beard Foundation, and others.
Julie Vernick earned her BA in Psychology from Boston University. Just prior to graduation in 2002, she met Greg and they immediately connected on their interest in food and restaurants. Prior to opening Vernick Food & Drink, Julie spent 7 years in marketing and advertising at one of New York City’s leading ad agencies.
When the doors at Vernick Food & Drink opened in 2012, Julie provided a warm welcome to all guests. The arrival of daughter Alexandra has Julie on a hiatus from working the floor during dinner service. Today, she oversees the administrative and financial aspects of the restaurant so she can dedicate her evenings to being with their daughter. Julie is proud to stand by her husband Greg and carry on their family traditions of serving their neighbors honest, no fuss meals.
Ryan Mulholland is a native of Norwich, CT. His mother worked in restaurants to put herself through school, and some of his earliest memories center around visiting her at work and meeting people from all walks of life. He first met Greg and Julie Vernick at Boston University, where he studied biomedical engineering before returning to his love of the restaurant business.
Prior to being part of the opening team at Vernick Food & Drink, Ryan earned his stellar reputation at Boston’s renowned restaurants Clio and Eastern Standard. For over 10 years at these restaurants, he honed his ground-up approach to hospitality and acquired the skills and finesse to lead a staff of dedicated professionals focused on making each guest feel genuinely welcome and at home. At Vernick Food & Drink, Ryan’s gracious touch is evident throughout the restaurant; his detail-oriented service was praised in Philadelphia magazine’s “Three Stars: Excellent” review: “…Along with every server I had through the stretch of four visits, Mulholland’s sharp memory and easygoing enthusiasm make this a genuinely amiable spot.” In addition to overseeing day-to-day operation of the front-of-house team, he is also responsible for the restaurant’s wine program.
